Coming To Terms

What Now?

So the great Oasis bandwaggon continues and after more than a decade of entertaining us with their antics and more importantly with their great music and lyrics just how has all this affected the Gallagher brothers?

Well Noel was reported as saying "if somebody said to me, in twelve years you’ll be in a band with your brother and two carrot munching geezers who don’t like football I would have said fuck off, I’m not joining the Bee Gees."

Noel summed up the enduring success of Oasis when he was quoted as saying "I think a lot of what we've achieved has come about because we?ve caught the spirit of what was missing in a lot of peoples lives."

Oasis back in 1994 filled an important gap in the music industry. Nirvana and Stone Roses had all but gone and there was a huge void in the heart and soul of music everywhere. Then along came two brothers and they grabbed music by the balls and squeezed them hard, creating a genre all on their own.

As Noel in typical style put so erm eloquently "We write music for the guy who walks down the street to get his copy of the Daily Mirror and 20 Bensons and he's got fuck all going for him". Now that more than any other statement sums up exactly what Oasis means and truly is.

The music industry was all about hype. Oasis was having none of that and I am in a way very pleased they stuck to their guns. It's so easy for bands to get labelled into a particular manner and they end up just being yet another "plastic" band. Not Oasis. They play with raw emotion and with attitude.

So although Oasis started out with a rebellious streak and a couldn't care less attitude, I'd like to say that however they are viewed by the mnedia and the world at large, you cannot take away from them the one most important aspect of all. They made their mark and without their raw humour and rebellious manner, music would be so much poorer and devoid of real soul.

Keep it up Oasis. Love you, hate you, adore you, deride you. It doesn't matter because you are who you are and you do what you do and we all agree that for good or bad, you have made your mark and we wish you to continue to do so for many years to come.
